Panasonic is delighted to be supporting the launch of Freesat by developing three new High Definition plasma TVs with Freesat built-in.
These stylish and desirable plasmas boast a host of features to deliver outstanding moving picture resolution and beautiful colour reproduction together with brilliant sound and easy operation, giving viewers the optimum HD viewing experience.
Freesat offers subscription free HD services, enhanced HD interactive services and the potential for future feature expansion. As the Freesat service is satellite based, further capacity for the expansion of HD services can be assured.
A Panasonic HD plasma TV with Freesat built-in is a quick and convenient way to view a wide range of channels including brilliant HD programmes from the BBC and ITV, all for free*. These sets give optimised picture performance, perfect for HD sports, movies and games, as they come equipped with Panasonics flagship Intelligent Frame Creation System, which harnesses the computing power of the V-Real Pro 3 processor, motion compensated additional frames are created and inserted between the source frames resulting in natural frame-to-frame transitions, for smooth motion high definition images. In addition 24p Real Cinema technology ensures enhanced judder-free playback when viewing 24 frames per second material, such as that output from Panasonic Blu-ray players. The PZ81 series also features 100Hz Double Scan to ensure beautiful, flicker-less on-screen motion and an extra wide colour gamut with x.v.Colour, which produces richer, more vivid colouring from x.v.Colour signals
The full HD resolution panel of the PZ81 series beautifully reproduces all High Definition sources including Blu-ray and the Freesat HD programming. Plus the V-Real Pro 3 processor also offers up-scaling capabilities, second to none when it comes to reproducing standard definition sources such as DVD or TV programming, where HD is not yet available.
The PZ81 series are able to achieve a staggering 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio meaning that on screen blacks are true, deep, silky black and not the washed out grey that many other products suffer from. With such a dynamic range of black to white, the viewer will be immersed in the action as a more life-like image is reproduced on screen.
All Panasonic Freesat models are supplied with HD & SD Digital Satellite, SD Digital Terrestrial and SD Analogue Terrestrial Tuners with easy user navigation between Freesat, Freeview and analogue terrestrial services.
These sets also come equipped with a LAN Connector for connection to a broadband router, enabling internet connection for future service enhancements. (Suitable broadband router and contract with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) will be required - not supplied).
All of Panasonics PZ81 models benefit from an optical output for Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound output for connection to a 5.1 channel amplifier, so that viewers can enjoy a home cinema surround sound experience.**
For ease of use, the TVs come with Freesat EPG and Gemstar GUIDEplus, 7-day on-screen electronic programme guides with easy to navigate categories for both satellite and terrestrial digital services. Another easy operation innovation is Enhanced Viera Link, which allows interlinked operation of various Panasonic AV devices using only the Viera remote control, by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable. The PZ81 also benefits from 3 HMDI Connectors.

Viera Tough Panel
- The plasmas protective panel provides high resistance to impacts and scratches. The front of the TV is covered by a tough glass layer, for extra assurance just in case something hits it. What's more, the protective panel makes cleaning easier too; simply wipe the panel with a soft cloth when necessary.
- Environmental consideration starts with the design stage, because Panasonic cares about the future of our earth. Lead-free plasma panels and an improved panel life are examples of how Viera production helps to conserve the earth and its resources. Whats more, functions now include a new ECO mode to help lower power consumption.
Lead-Free Panel
- Panasonic is making products friendlier to the environment. All Viera plasma display panels are lead-free. This reduces the impact on the environment when recycling or disposing of them in the future. About 4 million plasma TVs were produced in 2006. Whilst 2006 plasma display panels contained 70 grams of lead, lead-free Viera models contain 0 grams. This could constitute a reduction of 280 tons of lead per year.
Eco Mode
- The TV adjusts the picture settings automatically depending on the ambient lighting conditions. The image brightness changes according to the level of room lighting to achieve an energy-saving operation.
Up to 100,000 Hours Plasma Display Life
- The plasma display panel used in the 2008 Viera Plasma Television range is rated for up to 100,000 hrs. (This measurement is based on the time taken for the brightness of the panel to reduce to half of its maximum level. The time taken to reach this level may vary depending on the image content and the environment where the television is used).
Digital reception for the whole UK
- In addition to providing access to HD services, Freesat also offers a route to other digital TV and radio services for out of coverage areas. With 98% of UK households within the Freesat footprint virtually all homes in the UK can enjoy switching to digital right now.
This impressive new line-up of Full HD Plasma TVs reflects Panasonic's quest to continually improve viewing quality, networking and environmentally conscious manufacturing and there are plans to expand their range of Freesat HD Televisions in the future.
